NHRCK made a recommendation to adopt closed-type toilet to block unpleasant sound and odor
o The National Human Rights Commission of Korea(Chairperson, Hyun Byung-chul) recommended to the Chief of A police station to change open-type toilet in its detention facility to closed-type one.
o During the investigation, the NHRCK has confirmed that out of the 7 detention rooms, 5 rooms, except for the ones for disabled persons and women, have toilets which have a mere 1 meter-long opaque wall that could not block inflow of unpleasant noise and odor from toilet to inside the detention room.
o The NHRCK concluded that having open-type toilets which give sense of humiliation and shame to the detainees is violation of detainees' personal rights promised under Article 10 of the Constitution.
