NHRCK initiates a research to formulate a roadmap on business and human rights

The National Human Rights Commission of Korea is pushing ahead with a research to establish a business and human rights roadmap to fulfill the demand from the international community regarding business’s respect for human rights and to strengthen sustainable growth and competitiveness of Korea enterprises on global stage.

 

 

The Commission plans to identify domestic and international environment and trends to formulate a comprehensive measure to facilitate human rights management to help the state with responsibility to protect its people’s human rights, public institutions and business who practice human rights management and the Commission who protects and promote human rights and provides remedy to practically contribute to human rights management.

 

In regards to human rights management, the international community including the UN and OECD is actively discussion on the issue including the formulation of the NAP on business and human rights as well as the UN Sustainable Development Goal. It also encourages each state to actively engage in spreading human rights management.

 

The Commission plans to identify mid-to-long term strategies for human rights management and propose role and cooperative measures for the government, public institutions and enterprises.

 

In addition, it plans to formulate a manual on human rights management for public institutions in financing and investment to enhance efficiency of the roadmap.

 

Meanwhile, the Commission recommended the Guideline on Human Rights Management in September 2014 to 117 public institutions and all of them accepted the recommendation. At the end of this month, the Commission plans to recommend ‘improvement of management evaluation in public institutions’ to the Ministry of Strategy and Finance which encourages the Ministry to reflect human rights management in evaluating management of public institutions.
