NHRCK started human rights policy development program

The National Human Rights Commission of Korea started the human rights policy development program jointly with KOICA from 22 September to 12 October, inviting 19 human rights officers from 11 countries including Bangladesh, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Burundi, Moldova, Nepal, Pakistan, Uganda, Kiribati, DR Congo, and Vietnam.

 

During the program, participants who are in charge of establishment of NHRIs and human rights policies will learn lessons regarding the role and function of NHRIs, human rights theory, international human rights system, disabilities and human rights, children and human rights, local government and human rights, and human rights and development and establish action plan to enhance human rights situation in their countries.

 

In addition, they will make a visit to the National Assembly, Korea Democracy Foundation, UNHRC Seoul and UN OHCHR Seoul to learn about activities of each institution.

 

Since 2009, the Commission invited human rights officers from abroad to share each other's experiences regarding the role of NHRIs and establishment of NAPs for capacity building for human rights policy development.

 

The Commission wishes that the program serves as an opportunity for participants to learn the progress for Korea's democratization and promotion of human rights which will contribute to promotion and protection of human rights at international level.
