On April 17, the NHRCK and the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education embarked on their special lecture circuit on human rights for student athletes and their coaches in the district of Seoul in order to create a human rights-friendly culture in school sports teams.

The purpose of the lecture tour is to prevent human rights violations against student athletes and their coaches and to reemphasize the need to protect the educational rights of student athletes following the 2011 NHRCK’s guideline for sports and human rights.

In 2012, a total of 2,760 students and teachers participated in the lecture series and this year that number is expected to shot up to 6,727.

The NHRCK seeks to raise awareness of violence including sexual violence occurred on school sports teams , ultimately protect physical freedom of student athletes, and to enhance human rights sensitivity of students and coaches on sports teams.
