NHRCK commemorates 69th anniversary of the UDHR

o National Human Rights Commission of Korea celebrated 69th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights where 400 people including Prime Minister Lee Nakyeon of the Republic of Korea, diplomatic delegations, and civil society organizations.

 

o The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted on 10 December 1948 by the UN, and countries celebrate adoption of the UDHR on 10th of December every year. The UDHR was promulgated as an universal standard applicable for every nation and every individual to realize human dignity and value.

 

o This year, the ceremony was full of diverse event including pre-ceremony performance of Dream With Ensemble composer of clarinetists, video clip of people reading all 30 articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Commemorative remarks of Chairperson of NHRCK, Congratulatory remarks of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea, 2017 Human Rights Awards, and performance of Harim(singer) and Rainbow(choir composed of children from multi-cultural families).

 

o During the ceremony, 14 people received 2017 Human Rights Awards including order of merit and medal of honor.  

 

o Chairperson Lee stated in commemorative remarks that the more people dream of a society where everyone’s human rights are respected and believe in the value and beauty of that dream, the closer we can get to a human rights advanced nation. He emphasized that NHRCK make its best efforts to create a society that respects and realizes the spirit of the UDHR.

 

o NHRCK would like to take this opportunity to express its gratitude and respect to all people who are dedicated to promotion and protection of human rights at every corner of our society. We hope through this event, people recall the noble meaning of the UDHR.
