The National Human Rights Commission of Korea (NHRCK) and the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) jointly hosted the ‘2013 Human Rights Policy Development Program’ from March 10 to 30 where 16 invited public officers from Belarus, Bhutan, Burundi, Haiti, Kenya, Moldova, Mongolia and Nigeria joined.

The training program sought to offer technical assistance on the formation of human rights instruments by sharing the know-how of the NHRCK. On top of lectures on a variety of topics such as National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs), International Human Rights System, and newly raised human rights issues, participants made study visits to human rights related organizations including the National Assembly, IOM Migration Research and Training Center, the Korea Bar Association and the Ansan City Foreigners Community Center.

Meanwhile, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) recognized the NHRCK as an exemplary NHRI in Asia and asked for its support for neighboring countries that are in the process of establishing a NHRI. The NHRCK has provided this annual training program since 2008 to meet such needs and play a leading role in contributing to the protection of international human rights.
