Chairperson Choi Youngae of the National Human Rights Commission of Korea attended the 23rd General Meeting of the APF(Asia Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions). APF annual meeting is a platform for 25 NHRIs to gather together for exchange and cooperation to promote and protect the human rights of people in respective countries.
Chairperson Choi, for the first time since her inauguration as Chairperson,attended this international conference and successfully won the bid to host the 24th APF AGM and BC in 2019.
Back in 2004 Chairperson Choi successfully hosted the 7th International Conference of National Human Rights Institutions asa Secretary General. After 15 years, as Chairperson of the NHRCK, she will be hosting the APF AGM and BC, which is an essential forum for the NHRIs in the Asia Pacific.
While expressing her will to host the 24th APF AGM and BC, Chairperson Choi explained about Korea’s civil movements and stated that she would like to share such activities and experiences with the international community. She also stated that she and the NHRCK will make their best efforts in order to meet the high expectation on the NHRCK both at home and abroad.
At the meeting, a number of NHRIs appreciated the contribution of the NHRCK to the APF, and called for continuous global activities. They also expressed their anticipation on the international conference that will be hosted in Seoul, next year.
NHRCK will continue to make efforts for the promotion and protection of human rights.
