NHRCK Chairperson Meets with Canadian Ambassador to Korea
On April 23 2021, Canadian Ambassador to Korea Michael Danagher paid a courtesy call on Chairperson Young-ae Choi of the National Human Rights Commission of Korea.
The two sides discussed a wide range of human rights issues in Korea, including mandatory COVID-19 testing for foreigners and LGBTI rights. The Chairperson stressed the importance of building a society inclusive of migrants and explained the decision released by the Commission regarding the mandatory testing. Chairperson Choi thanked the Embassy for releasing its official opinion about the measures, which later gave greater weighter the Commission’s recommendations.
With regard to the discussions about equality law taking place at the National Assembly, the Chairperson invited the Ambassador to the upcoming conference on equality and anti-discrimination hosted by the Commission, adding that Korea can learn from Canadian experience of building a diverse and inclusive society.
