Song Doo-hwan, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission, attended the 28th APF General Assembly from 19-21 October as Chairperson of the APF.
Chairmperson Song led the annual meeting with the APF Governance Committee to share human rights issues with national human rights institutions in the Asia-Pacific region and discuss ways to promote human rights and strengthen cooperation in the region.
At the annual meeting, attended by more than 100 participants from national human rights institutions in Asia and the Pacific, the United Nations and related organizations, participants reviewed the APF's activities during the year and identified challenges that national human rights institutions in the region collectively face, including repression of human rights defenders and gender-based discrimination.
The APF resolved to continue its work to strengthen the capacity of national human rights institutions in the region and to engage with the international community in 2024, with the promotion of gender equality, the climate crisis and human rights, and the protection of human rights defenders high on the agenda.
